The Aufmaster Story – turning practical questions into digital solutions

Our First Interview – A Look Behind the Scenes
In our very first interview, co-founder Jan Rebelein speaks candidly about:
- Why so much valuable time is lost on construction sites
- How digitalization & AI are transforming the electrical trade
- What the office and the jobsite can learn from each other – and why they so often talk past one another
And that’s just the beginning:
Jan also shares the treehouse metaphor that ties it all together, the journey from the first small partnership to the first prototype, the game-changer with Helukabel – and why even Covid became an accelerator for Aufmaster.

Why We Started – and Where We’re Headed
It all began with a simple question:
💡 “Why isn’t there a device that makes measuring cable lengths finally simple?”
Anyone who has ever worked on a construction site knows the reality:
- One person makes an estimate, another jots it down on a scrap of paper.
- In the end, meters are missing, and the billing doesn’t add up.
- Discussions with the site management or client are inevitable.
For us it was clear: Even though we didn’t come from this daily routine ourselves, this was the problem that had to be solved. Instead of continuing with guesswork and paper chaos, we wanted to create a solution that just works – and truly relieves tradespeople in their everyday work.
What We Learned: Three Principles That Define Aufmaster
- Technology is only a means to an end
We never wanted to build just another tool that creates extra work. Aufmaster was designed so that cable work is automatically documented – with no extra steps, no paperwork, no stress. - Digitalization must not be complicated
Digitalization in the trades often fails because systems are too complex. Our approach: One press of a button is enough. Clip on the cable, measure, done – the app takes care of the rest. - Courage pays off
We didn’t have a traditional electrical background. Many would have said: “That won’t work.” Today, companies across Germany are using Aufmaster because we didn’t start with jargon, but with a simple question: How would it have to work to truly help?
